Frequently Asked Questions?

A De-aerator Tank is a device that removes oxygen and other dissolved gases from water, such as feed-water or thermic fluid or other fluid.

An expansion tank or expansion vessel is a small tank used to protect closed water heating systems and domestic hot water systems from excessive pressure. The tank is partially filled with air, whose compressibility cushions shock caused by water hammer and absorbs excess water pressure caused by thermal expansion.

Thermic Fluid Heater is an equipment used for heating the Thermic Fluid to the designated temperature by burning fuel in the furnace.

Thermic Fluid Heating System comprises of a Thermic Fluid Heater with dedicated furnace, Expansion Tank, De-aerator Tank, Air Pre-Heater, Mechanical Dust Collector, FD Fan, ID Fan and Chimney

Thermic Fluid is a naturally derived mineral base or synthic oil oil used for heating the systems in different industries. It is used as a heat transfer medium as a substitute for steam in the areas where there is lack of water for boiler.

A Thermic Fluid Heating System is a heating system using thermic fluid as a heat transfer medium specifically used in process and chemical industries.

A recuperator is a special purpose counter-flow energy recovery heat exchanger positioned within the supply and exhaust air streams of an air handling system, or in the exhaust gases of an industrial process, in order to recover the waste heat.

A chimney is a structure that provides ventilation for hot flue gases or smoke from a boiler, stove, furnace or fireplace to the outside atmosphere.

Induced Draft Fan is a centrifugal blower used to develop negative pressure in the system. The main aim is to extract flue gases from the system and deliver them to chimney.

Forced Draft Fan is a centrifugal blower which is used to develop positive pressure in the system. The main aim is to supply fresh air to the boiler for better combustion.

Mechanical Dust Collector (MDC) is a device which is used to separate ash and dust particles from the flue gases leaving the system to ensure clean gas at chimney.

An Air Pre-Heater (APH) is a heat exchanger used to recover heat from flue gases and heat the air required for combustion.

A Super-Heater is a type of heat exchanger which is used to convert saturated steam or wet steam into dry and super-heated steam. It absorbs heat from flue gases and transfer it to the wet/saturated steam.

An economiser is defined as any part of feed pipe that is wholly or partly exposed to the action of flue gases for the purpose of recovery of waste heat. - IBR REGULATIONS 1950

A composite boiler is a combination of Fire Tube and Water Tube boilers. It uses the advantages of both the systems and eliminates the disadvantages of the conventional designs.

A package type boiler is a boiler with a shell and tube construction along with an integrated furnace. It can be fire tube or Water tube type.

A high pressure watertube boiler is a type of boiler in which water circulates in tubes heated externally by the fire. Fuel is burned inside the furnace, creating hot gas which heats water in the steam-generating tubes.

A fire-tube boiler is a type of boiler in which hot gases pass from a fire through one or more tubes running through a sealed container of water.

A Small Industrial Boiler (SIB) is a shell type boiler generating steam for use external to itself under pressure upto 7 kg/sq.cm. and having a volumetric capacity exceeding 25 litres but not exceeding 500 litres including the volumetric capacity of all pressure parts being heated from the same heating source and connected to boiler. OR SIB is defined as a coil type boiler or a once through boiler or a water tube boiler having the conditions same as above except that - (1) the limitation of pressure shall be 12 kg/sq.cm. (2) The capacity shall be not exceeding 150 litres. - IBR REGULATIONS 1950

IBR boilers means any closed vessel exceeding 25 liters in capacity and which is used expressively for generating steam under pressure and includes any mounting or other fitting attached to such vessel which is wholly or partly under pressure when the steam is shut off. - IBR REGULATIONS 1950

Boiler means a pressure vessel in which steam is generated for use external to itself by application of heat which is wholly or partly under pressure when steam is shut off. - THE BOILERS ACT, 1923
