An AIR PRE-HEATER (APH) is any device designed to heat air before another process (for example, combustion in a boiler) with the primary objective of increasing the thermal efficiency of the process. AIR PRE HEATER is a type of HEAT EXCHANGER which is used to transfer heat between any process output and air. It is a conventional Shell and Tube type or Plate type heat exhanger in which process output flows through the tubes and air flows over the tubes in the shell. There are baffles present which create the resistance in air flow and increase the heat transfer. AIR PRE HEATER improves the overall efficiency of the system by increasing the temperature of the air required for combustion.
